  • What is American Corner?

  • The American Corners (AC) program is a United States Department of State-sponsored initiative inaugurated worldwide more than 10 years ago.
ACs are partnerships between U.S. embassies or consulates and local communities. They serve as a resource for residents of those local communities, offering access to information about American culture, society, and values, as well as information on educational opportunities in the United States.
There are almost 400 Corners in 60 countries all around the world under the program. The fundamental function of American Corners is to make information about the United States available to foreign publics at large. They provide access to current and reliable information about the U.S. via book, video, and DVD collections, the Internet, and through local programming to the general public.

Sponsored jointly by the U.S. Embassy, Belgrade and Novi Sad Cultural Center, the American Corner serves as an information outpost similar to a public library reference service. The multi-media, book and periodical collections are open and accessible. Associated reading or meeting rooms are made available to host program events and activities (i.e. author readings, speaker programs, workshops, films, meetings, and exhibits).

American Corner consists of a collection of books in English about the U.S. The book collection includes reference titles, works of fiction, business and government publications.

American Corner also provides access to U.S. information through Internet access, audio and video products, and CD-ROMs.Access to American Corner’s collection is free and open to all interested citizens.
